Migraine? How I can help
When I’m describing what I do as a naturopath, I often get tongue-tied! There is so much we can do to help that I often don’t know where to start.
Sometimes it can be difficult to describe how I support my patients with migraine, as naturopaths often work very differently to other healthcare providers you may have seen before.
But the simple answer is, that as a naturopathy client, we make it all about YOU.
My appointments with patients are in-depth and comprehensive. We can end up talking about everything from digestion to stress to your favourite food to life goals. Our first appointment goes for 60 to 90 minutes! We can cover a lot of ground - which is why sometimes we need to work together for a few appointments, as we go through:
• Your health history
• Looking at the various systems of your body and how they work together and influence migraine – hormones, nervous system, musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular and the all-important digestive system
• An introduction to the migraine circle of self-care - a powerful migraine management framework I step you through to learn how to prevent migraine attacks
• How a migraine develops and strategies to manage migraines at each step
• Why your hormones play a role, and how to balance or manage hormones
• Managing hydration and electrolytes for migraine prevention
• What to try when you feel a migraine coming on to stop it in its tracks
• Possible triggers in your environment
• The importance of nutrition in preventing migraine, and a simple eating protocol to reduce your migraines and for overall amazing health
• Recipes and meal plans
• Natural pain management
• A guide to give to family and friends to help them support you when you have a migraine
• Supplements for migraines which have been clinically proven to help
• How movement and gentle exercise can help migraine
• How to build a team of health professionals for a holistic approach to migraine management – where you are in control!
Plus, in addition we can look at testing such as food intolerances, nutritional status, hormone and neurotransmitter levels.
Some patients describe our appointments like a health journey. I think this is because we are all unique, and every migraine sufferer experiences migraine differently. That's why naturopathy - with its holistic and individual approach where no patient receives the same treatment plan - can achieve great results with migraine patients.
After a few appointments, patients are equipped with:
• A tool-kit of natural yet evidence-based treatment approaches to reduce the frequency and severity of migraine
• A step-by-step written treatment plan which is realistic and easy to follow – and unique to you
• Feeling supported by someone who understands migraine
As you can see, we explore your health in depth. Naturopathy isn’t a quick fix, and you do have to play an active role in your own health. But, the results can be life-changing as you experience not just fewer migraine attacks, but better health overall.
